I finally decided to go back to these blogs after a long hiatus. Here is the link to the tutorial. I had missed paper piecing, and I was quite happy with the result.
I have 2 more blocks left to make, and a few extras to make the size I want. Yay!

Summer Sampler: Blocks 8 & 9
Here are some more blocks from the summer sampler:
Block 8: Arkansas Traveler
This block was very fun to make. You make the diamond units first, then use paper piecing to make square units. The difficulty was putting them together in the end. There was just so much seam-bulk in the middle, my poor machine was having trouble (I made this block before I got my Viking. He would have powered right through it!). I love the end result though.
Block 9: Lucky Pieces
This might be my favorite block. It is just so bright and happy! (And so easy to make!) I think the choice of colors really made it pop.
And finally, as a special treat, here are all the blocks I have so far laid out. Now that I am looking at all of them, I really want to finish this quilt! I plan to make 11 more blocks. The next 3 are from this same Summer sampler, and they are all very intricate paper piecing blocks. So it will take me a while to complete :)

Summer Sampler: Blocks 6 & 7
I finished these a while ago, I just forgot to blog about them. Ooops...
Block 6: Mosaic
This block was super easy and fun to make. Just a bunch of HSTs. The end result is really pretty.
Block 7: Garden Path
This block was tricky. I used the alternative piecing method, which of course involved setting triangles. As I mentioned before, for whatever reason they never work for me... I really need to do my own math to figure out what I am doing wrong. It does look pretty though.

Summer Sampler: Blocks 4 & 5
Block 4: Minessota
This one took a super long time to make. The diamond units are paper-pieced, and the hour glass units consist of quarter-square triangles. This was my first experience with quarter square triangles, but I must say, I love this little unit, and will probably make more of them. I made this block with incorrectly printed templates, so I ended up having to trim the hourglass units down.
Block 5: Six-Pointed Star
I liked making this block. I think the tutorial was wrong though. The triangles have to be cut to at least 4" height (not 3.5"). I need to try making it with that bigger size to see what happens. The height of the block ended up being 11.5" (and 12.5" wide), so I am going to have to add strips to top and bottom.

Summer Sampler: Blocks 2 & 3
Block 2: Star of Virginia
I made the star using geese units, using a single unit for white as opposed to HSTs. It did turn out quite well, even though there was some waste.
Block 3: Star
This was a paper pieced block. It took me a while to get this correctly, but I am quite happy with how it turned out.
The only problem is the scaling was messed up when I was printing the templates, so this block ended up being 11.75" x 11.75" instead of 12.5" x 12.5". I guess I will need to add a small border onto it, because my other 2 blocks are the correct size.

Summer Sampler: Block 1
I am taking another quilting class at my local quilting store, and I decided to use this Summer Sampler as my class project. We are free to pick whatever pattern we want, I picked that one because it involves paper piecing, which I am not really familiar with. I started making a paper-pieced block in class last week, but in the mean-time I put together this greek square block:
